Irish Boat Shop to Host Clean Marina Open House

Who: Open to all]CHARLEVOIX, MI – Irish Boat Shop will host an open house to showcase the Michigan Clean Marina Program, from 1:15-2:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18. The open house will feature a tour of Irish Boat Shop, which has been in operation on Lake Charlevoix since 1971 – and has been a Certified Michigan Clean Marina since 2006. The event offers an opportunity to learn more about the voluntary stewardship program, to meet key stakeholders, and to see some of the recommended best management practices in place.


What is the Clean Marina Program?
The Michigan Clean Marina Program is a voluntary program that encourages marinas to adopt environmentally sound and economicallyfeasible marina and boating practices to reduce pollution, enhance fish andwildlife habitat and protect water quality. A 10-step process – including the completion of an online training course and a site visit – helps marinas achieve Clean Marina certification. The program is open to all public and private marinas in Michigan. Currently, there are 40 Certified Clean Marinas around the state, and many others that are currently undergoing training toachieve certification.
