New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Proposes Amendments to 6 NYCRR Part 601 - Water Withdrawal Permitting, Reporting and Registration
 
On November 23, 2011, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) announced proposed amendments to existing water resource management regulations that seek to harmonize elements of the existing Part 601 with the new statewide water withdrawal bill (A.5318-A/ S.3798) signed into law by Governor Cuomo on August 15, 2011. This Part also implements New York's obligation under the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence River Basin Water Resources Compact pursuant to article 21 title 10 of the Environmental Conservation Law.

The DEC will hold 3 public information sessions to provide more information about the new regulation: December 6 in New Paltz, December 8 in West Henrietta, and December 12 in Albany. Details are in the November 30 Environmental Notice Bulletin ( http://www.dec.ny.gov/enb/20111130_not0.html ).
 
The public comment period for this regulation has been extended to 60 days, ending on January 22, 2012.
