The Superior Watershed Partnership 100% Made in the UP!

This year the SWP invites you to support your local, made in the UP nonprofit. The
support-local movement is taking hold all across the country but it seems to be
especially strong here in the Upper Peninsula.

Each year the SWP completes scores of environmental projects that help protect our
quality of life, our natural resources and the three Great Lakes that virtually
surround us. Here are a few highlights from 2011:

WATERSHED PROTECTION AND RESTORATION

* Continued to protect and restore the rivers and watersheds you love, including
 the Salmon Trout River.

* Improved local hiking trails and expanded our dune restoration program.
COMMUNITY AND YOUTH PROGRAMMING

* Provided more opportunities for youth including the summer youth program with
the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community, an all-girl conservation crew, more K-12 school
programs and more NMU internships!

* Expanded community pollution prevention programs that reduce beach litter (especially
cigarette butts), reduce electronic waste (collected 33,000 pounds), improve stormwater
runoff and protect our Great Lakes.

CLIMATE CHANGE, ENERGY CONSERVATION, AND EMERGING GREAT LAKES ISSUES

* The SWP has become the regional leader in addressing climate change by providing
several community-based energy conservation programs that have reduced carbon emissions
by over 30 million pounds!

* Removed invasive plant species from hundreds of acres across the UP and restored
native plant species at prioritized natural areas including Grand Island and the
 Big Island canoe wilderness!

We hope you will consider the Superior Watershed Partnership in your year-end giving.
