EPA Inspector General issues national report on state environmental enforcement of air, water and RCRA programs.... The EPA Office of Inspector General (OIG) has recently issued a new report that is now available on our website at http://www.epa.gov/oig under "Recent Releases:" "EPA Must Improve Oversight of State Enforcement," dated December 9, 2011, http://www.epa.gov/oig/reports/2012/20111209-12-P-0113.pdf We sought to determine (1) whether the EPA set clear national performance benchmarks for state enforcement programs, and (2) to what extent EPA headquarters holds regions accountable and supports them to ensure that all state enforcement programs protect human health and the environment. The scope of our review included selected programs under three statutes: Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, and Resource Conservation and Recovery Act. The Michigan portions of this covering clean air, clean water and RCRA programs are available at: http://www.epa.gov/compliance/state/srf/ click on Michigan to bring up Michigan reports. Most of what was evaluated occurred in the Granholm Administration, but phase 2 activity had deadlines extended into 2011. ======================================== Alex J.
