~~ Great Lakes Restoration Initiative Webinar ~~

Innovative Ideas to Improve the Environmental Performance of
Great Lakes Breakwaters

You are invited to participate in a webinar and provide input to a study
that is seeking to change the way we construct and maintain navigation
breakwaters, jetties, and other coastal structures. At present, breakwaters
are designed to meet specific navigation safety objectives and while
avoiding unacceptable environmental impacts. The study will explore
opportunities to design these structures in a way that provides valuable
habitat for flora and fauna in the Great Lakes, while still achieving the
primary navigation goal.

The study is being conducted by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers with
funding from the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative, and with assistance
from the Great Lakes Commission. The webinar will present background on the
Breakwater Ecosystem Improvement Study; review results of a national survey
related to navigation infrastructure; and seek your thoughts and ideas in
response to the information presented.

The webinar will be held on three separate dates:

*	February 23 at 10 am Central

*	March 8 at 10 am Central

*	March 10 at 10 am Central

The same webinar will be presented each time and the three dates simply
provide alternative options to fit into your schedule. The main webinar
presenters will be Dr. Tom Fredette and Tony Friona, U.S. Army Corps of
Engineers, Engineer Research and Development Center.

Further details on how to participate in the webinar will follow. For
planning purposes, please let us know if you wish to participate and which
date will work best for you by responding to Dr. Tom Fredette at
Thomas.J.Fredette at usace.army.mil. Pre-registration is not necessary, but we
would like to reserve a sufficient number of lines for each date.
