Submitted by The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers <Chicagodistrict.PAO at usace.army.mil> http://glmris.anl.gov/ --- Through the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) scoping process (http://glmris.anl.gov/involve/whatisscoping/index.cfm), the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) invites you to attend a meeting to help us refine the scope of the Great Lakes and Mississippi River Interbasin Study (GLMRIS) to focus on the most significant issues. To make an oral comment at one of these meetings, please register at (http://glmris.anl.gov/involve/pubschedule/index.cfm). After the commencement of the first scoping meeting in Chicago on Dec. 15, 2010, USACE has confirmed the venues, dates and times of nine other public scoping meetings (http://glmris.anl.gov/involve/pubschedule/index.cfm). Also, due to high public interest, USACE will also hold meetings in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and New Orleans, Louisiana. Details to follow. Until March 31, 2011, USACE will be accepting public comments on the scope of GLMRIS. Written comments may be submitted through (http://glmris.anl.gov/involve/comments/index.cfm). USACE, in consultation with other Federal agencies, Native American Tribes, State agencies, local governments and non-governmental organizations, is conducting a feasibility study named the Great Lakes and Mississippi River Interbasin Study. For GLMRIS, USACE will explore options and technologies, collectively known as aquatic nuisance species (ANS) controls, that could be applied to prevent ANS transfer between the Great Lakes and Mississippi River Basins through aquatic pathways. ANS are nonindigenous species that threaten the diversity or abundance of native species or the ecological stability of infested waters, or commercial, agricultural, aquacultural or recreational activities dependent on such waters. See 16 U.S.C. § 4702(1) (2010). -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
