Exploring Our Energy Future: I Want Wind in My Backyard

The Potential Impacts of Wind Power on West Michigan Farms, Rooftops, and
Manufacturing Floors

Wind power was once an integral part of rural life in West Michigan, with
windmills an iconic piece of the region's agricultural heritage,
particularly among its many Dutch settlers. A century later, wind power has
the potential to reshape both our urban and rural communities, offering a
new generation of opportunities for utilities, industry and citizens alike.
We'll discuss the environmental, economic and human health impacts of wind
farms and the trend toward wind turbines on local homes and businesses: How
do we balance the land needs of wind power and preserve farmland and
agribusiness? What opportunities are available for local businesses and
manufacturers? What opportunities are available for home owners and building
managers? What steps must government take to support these opportunities?
