Stone Laboratory Guest Lectures Series Available via Webinar June 15, 2011 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Stone Laboratory, Ohio State University's island campus on Lake Erie, will kick off its summer lecture series tomorrow, June 16. Dr. Amanda Rodewald, Professor of Wildlife Ecology at Ohio State's School of Environment and Natural Resources will discuss, "Bird Conservation in an Urbanizing World: Are We Winging It?" The public can view the lectures and research briefs via a live web seminar from any computer with internet access. Each Thursday lecture will begin at 7:45 p.m. and last until approximately 9 p.m. A brief lecture on current research precedes each lecture at 7 p.m. Gary Longton, Senior Environmental Engineering Technician at DTE Energy, will talk about controlling and removing invasive mussels in his presentation, "Who Let the Molluscs Out?" Guests are invited to take a Lake Erie Water Taxi, at their own expense, at 7:15 p.m. from the Boardwalk Restaurant dock to Gibraltar Island, where they will be given a short tour before the lecture. "The Guest Lectures Series is a great way to get Great Lakes information out to the public," says Dr. Jeff Reutter, Director of Ohio Sea Grant and Stone Laboratory. "I encourage the public to come and take advantage of the opportunity to hear from the scientists and interact with each of them." The lectures also will be broadcast live into 333C Kottman Hall on the Ohio State main campus and upon request, broadcasts can be sent to other remote locations. Stone Lab Professor Dr. James Marshall, Assistant Professor of Biology at Rockford College, will discuss "Bird dispersal of invasive honeysuckle: residents versus migrants."
