Physical-biological coupling and fish recruitment in large lakes: State of knowledge and opportunities for progress Detroit, Michigan, August 16, 2011 The Great Lakes Fishery Commission is sponsoring a day of scientific presentations that will focus on the importance of physical processes to understanding variation in fish recruitment in the Laurentian Great Lakes. Presentations will be given by both Great Lakes and marine scientists, covering relevant topics that include: 1) case studies involving physical-biological coupling from Great Lakes, coastal marine, and open ocean ecosystems; 2) the benefits of physical-biological coupling approaches to fisheries management; and 3) modeling and technological advances related to conducting biophysical modeling. The list of confirmed presenters, as well as their general presentation topics, can be found on the second page of the attached announcement. More information about both physical-biological coupling and its importance to fish recruitment can be found at <http://www.glfc.org/research/FRra.php> http://www.glfc.org/research/FRra.php (for a detailed white paper see <http://www.glfc.org/research/Physical%20Processes.pdf> http://www.glfc.org/research/Physical%20Processes.pdf).
