    What If

    *We'd all jump at an opportunity like that! **Whether your focus is
    on floating bits of plastic, teaching students about marine debris,
    increasing marine debris awareness within communities, or educating
    the public on specific issues such as derelict fishing gear, this
    conference is for you.*

    Interested in hands-on demonstrations? Sign up for our Workshops
    <http://5imdc.wordpress.com/program/workshops/> and Field Trips
    <http://5imdc.wordpress.com/program/fieldtrips/>!

    * Edu-art: Learn about the process of making large-scale educational
      art by fabricating fish scales or bird feathers out of marine debris;
    * Science Kit: Utilize a three-lesson kit created by the Center for
      Microbial Oceanography to help educators teach about marine debris
      and take part in activities that explore the causes, geographical
      distribution and biological impacts of marine debris;
    * Field Trip: Follow a tour of the Schnitzer Steel Hawaii
      Corporation facility, where derelict nets and line are chopped
      into small pieces in order to be used to create electricity;
    * Do-It-Yourself Recycling Bin: Construct your own personal-sized
      recycling bins during a workshop demonstrating how to educate the
      public on the problems caused by discarded fishing line.

    If you're a registered participant, get ready to...

    Be a part of the GLOBAL marine debris community.

    Throughout the five day sessions, participants will have the
    opportunity to contribute key principles, messages and engagements
    to the "Honolulu Commitment", the multi-stakeholder pledge to
    address marine debris which will be one of the main objectives of
    the Conference.

    Come share your ideas on policy development, your research, your
    cleanup initiatives, and all other suggestions which will help us to
    develop collaborative solutions. We need your stories, your
    insights and your ideas in order to arrive at a truly global
    strategy for the prevention, reduction and management of marine debris.

    If you're /not/ registered yet...

    Remember the deadline is March 4th. By registering before then, you
    can avoid the late fee. Marine debris is a local and global
    problem, so let's do our part to stop it! Register now.

    Looking forward to seeing you at 5IMDC,/
    Conference staff /
