International Joint Commission to Release 15th Biennial Report

[Windsor, Ontario] - The International Joint Commission of the U.S. and
Canada announced today that its 15th Biennial Report on Great Lakes
Water Quality will be released to the public on Wednesday, March 9,
2011.  The report will be posted on the Commission website, www.ijc.org
<http://www.ijc.org>  at 8 am, and a media roundtable/teleconference to
discuss the report and answer questions will be held at Wayne State
University at 10 am.

 

The Commission prepared the report as part of its responsibilities to
assess progress toward achieving the objectives of the U.S.-Canada Great
Lakes Water Quality Agreement. The report addresses priorities that were
the focus of scientific research and public engagement over the past two
years, including beach closings, fish consumption, chemicals of emerging
concern, harmful algal growth, contaminated groundwater and alien
invasive species.  In particular, the report highlights concerns
regarding the nearshore zone where most people live and interact with
the Great Lakes.
