2011 Lake Superior Watershed Festival to be Held June 4

Free, fun, family-oriented activities.

Duluth, Minn. - The Regional Stormwater Protection Team (RSPT) is hosting
its fourth Lake Superior Watershed Festival on Saturday, June 4, 2011, from
9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Big Tent at Lake Superior College. The purpose of
the festival is to celebrate the Lake Superior Watershed including the many
streams and rivers that run through our region and feed into the Lake. The
festival is free and will be held rain or shine. The rain barrel and compost
bin sale will be taking place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

There will be entertainment featuring, In the Heart of the Beast Puppet and
Mask Theatre, Clearwater Environmental Sound, and Robi Meyerson. More than
20 local exhibitors will be available to talk to people about
environmentally friendly actions and products.

Kids can make and take an environmental-themed puppet, learn more about
underwater life in Lake Superior and enter a coloring contest to win great
prizes, including family passes to the Lake Superior Zoo and the Great Lakes
Aquarium. Adults can register for door prizes such as a rain barrel and
other great donations by local businesses. Food will be available throughout
the day.

"The goal of the Watershed Festival is to educate the public about ways they
can do their part to protect the small streams, the St. Louis River and Lake
Superior from untreated stormwater runoff that comes from rooftops,
driveways, lawns, parking lots, and sidewalks," said Chris Kleist, City of
Duluth Stormwater Division and Chair of the RSPT. "People need to understand
that the biggest threat to our nation's waters is leaves, grass clippings,
soil, fertilizers, pesticides, and pet waste and how they can reduce and/or
prevent these sources of harmful pollution from being washed directly into
streams, rivers and lakes."
