The Joint Ocean Commission Initiative is pleased to announce a call for
nominations for the second Marc J. Hershman Excellence in Mentoring Award.
Professor Hershman taught at the University of Washington School of Marine
Affairs and School of Law and was a respected leader in the ocean and
coastal community, including serving as a member of the U.S. Commission on
Ocean Policy and the Joint Ocean Commission Initiative. In memory of
Professor Hershman, the Joint Initiative will present this award to a
professional who exemplifies the legacy of Professor Hershman in educating,
training, and inspiring students and young professionals to pursue careers
in ocean and coastal policy and management. The award will be presented
during the Coastal Zone '11 Conference in Chicago, Illinois in July 2011.

Nominations are open to members of the academic community who have a strong
record of excellence in mentoring students or young professionals in the
field of ocean and coastal policy and management. To nominate an individual
for this award, please submit a nomination form, statement of
qualifications, and at least two letters of support to Laura Cantral at
lcantral at merid.org by June 3, 2011. For more information, please visit the
