Passing along… Cleveland Program Director Lake Erie WATERKEEPER Inc. The Lake Erie WATERKEEPER® is a fully licensed program of the WATERKEEPER® Alliance. The purpose of Lake Erie WATERKEEPER is to protect and improve the ecosystem of the Lake Erie watershed including: • bays, rivers and tributaries • water quality and nutrient input(algae) reductions • increasing aquatic habitat and spawning areas • documenting the history of the water of the Lake Erie watershed, bays, rivers and streams • educating and creating support groups for Lake Erie including bays, rivers and streams • protecting aquatic and water related species and habitat • providing for short and long term planning for alternatives to open lake dumping and beneficial reuse • supporting efforts for sustainability and climate change in the Lake Erie watershed • The Cuyahoga River and other Ohio Lake Erie watersheds east of Sandusky will be represented by the Cleveland Lake Erie Waterkeeper office. The Cleveland program director of Lake Erie Waterkeeper will develop and assist with advocating for policy issues and outreach to the general public, strategic partners, government agencies and elected offials in the Central and Eastern Lake Erie watershed. Position: The position is full-time salaried located in the Cleveland area. Pay is dependent on funding but is intended for permanent full time. The Cleveland Program Director will report to the Lake Erie Waterkeeper Executive Director. Work includes but is not limited to the following: • Advocate for Lake Erie Waterkeeper's mission with excellent written and communication skills before government agencies and decision makers in Lake Erie watershed policy discussions and formal and informal public hearings/meetings • Initiate and assist with effective public campaigns on Lake Erie Waterkeepers Strategic Plan ‘agenda’, including clean water (emphasis on nutrient loadings), invasives, water use, aquatic life (especially fish), clean-up of contaminated sites, and urban/suburban restoration and preservation sustainability and climate change. • Work closely with strategic partners in a collaborative fashion to advance policy agenda. · Build a Cleveland Lake Erie/Cuyahoga River based grass roots advocacy program with monthly meetings, newsletter, website building, list serves, social media, etc. Qualifications: Seeking a self starter who is knowledgeable, motivated and hardworking with a passion for Lake Erie. Successful candidate will have: • Love of water and Lake Erie, knowledge of the Cuyahoga and other Lake Erie tributaries east of Sandusky • Knowledge of and/or willingness to learn about the Clean Water Act • Willingness and ability to fund raise and build a local water awareness advocacy campaign with a grass roots base • Bachelor's degree in related field or three years of appropriate professional experience including water advocacy • Grant writing skills • Strong oral and written communication skills— networking, ability to write comments on permits, prepare fliers, newsletters, press releases, etc. • Ability to function in a small office in a collaborative and nimble environment on a shoe-string budget.
