For the past two years, expert work groups assembled by the
International Joint Commission have been reviewing the latest research,
discussing the latest policy developments and drafting reports on six
priority topics. Now, just ahead of the Great Lakes Water Quality

ng.ijc.org> later this week, workshops on each of these topics will
allow participants the opportunity to dig deeper into each of these
topics. Just as important, attendees will be able to provide their
comments firsthand to the authors of the reports.

That's the good news. The bad news is that very few seats are left for
the workshops, so make sure to register today

with former Vice President Al Gore).

________________________________

Other critical topics to be addressed at the Biennial Meeting include
the climate crisis (featuring a special plenary address by former Vice
President Al Gore) and impacts on the lakes, rapid response to aquatic
invasive species and health impacts of chemicals of emerging concern
(such as pharmaceuticals and personal care products). Click here

Make plans to come early to attend a special public meeting the evening
of October 11th hosted by the IJC's Great Lakes Science Advisory Board,
targeting Issues Affecting Lake Erie. At this public session, experts
will address growing concerns about the resurgence of harmful algae in
Lake Erie and its impacts on source water quality and fishing. Linkage
to climate change will also be discussed.

Attendees who stay through Friday will have the chance to attend a
special plenary session to help the IJC set priorities for 2011-2013.
Be there to help set the agenda for the next two years.

Under terms of the Canada-US Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement, the
IJC convenes the Biennial Meeting
<http://e2ma.net/go/10792311807/3958048/110368206/41297/goto:http:/meeti
ng.ijc.org> to report on progress toward restoration of the physical,
chemical and biological quality of the waters of the basin ecosystem.
In particular, the IJC and its Great Lakes Regional Office in Windsor
are charged with engaging and informing the public about restoration
efforts.

For the first time, the Biennial Meeting is being held in conjunction
with meetings of other Great Lakes focused organizations, including the
Healing Our Waters Coalition (more than 100 environmental organizations)
and the Great Lakes Commission, among others. Click here for more
