OSU Stone Lab Hosts 14th Annual Open House on Lake Erie

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

 

GIBRALTAR ISLAND, OH-Have you ever wanted to explore Ohio State University's
Stone Laboratory in Put-in-Bay harbor and learn about the research and
classes that go on there? Come visit the island on Lake Erie during the
Friends of Stone Laboratory (FOSL) 14th Annual Open House from 11:30 a.m. -
3:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 10. Free transportation will be available
from the Ohio State University Research Building on South Bass Island to
Gibraltar Island.

 

Activities at the Open House include:

.         Tours of Stone Laboratory

.         Tours of the 6.5-acre island and view Cooke Castle

.         Talks and Laboratory sessions

.         Summer class information and publications

.         Tours of Ohio State University's South Bass Island Lighthouse
(transportation not provided)

 

"Our annual Open House combines science and history by allowing our visitors
to learn about  Lake Erie research issues and education programs at Stone
Laboratory in addition to touring the historic Cooke Castle and South Bass
Island Lighthouse," says Dr. Jeff Reutter, Director of Stone Laboratory.

 

Registration will be available at the Ohio State University Research
Building on South Bass Island beside the Aquatic Visitors Center, South Bass
Island Lighthouse, or Gibraltar Island. For more information, please contact

office at 614.292.8949. This event is sponsored by FOSL, Stone Laboratory,
and Ohio Sea Grant. FOSL is non-profit group dedicated to donating time and
money to assist with the planning and funding of the Laboratory. For more

Located on the 6.5-acre Gibraltar Island in Put-In-Bay harbor, Stone
Laboratory is the Ohio State University's Island Campus on Lake Erie and the
education and research facility of the Ohio Sea Grant College Program. The
Ohio State University's Ohio Sea Grant program is part of NOAA Sea Grant, a
network of 30 Sea Grant programs dedicated to the protection and sustainable
