International Joint Commission Great Lakes Regional Office Hosts Water Quality Seminar in Windsor On Monday, September 12th, the International Joint Commission's Great Lakes Regional Office (GLRO) is hosting a seminar for the public at the Central Branch of the Windsor Public Library, 850 Ouellette Avenue. The free seminar, to be held from 1 pm to 4 pm in the Fred Israel Auditorium, will feature scientists from the Commission staff and experts from the City of Windsor and industry. The focus of the seminar is the impact of sewage discharges on water quality and steps being taken by governments to protect our lakes and rivers. The International Joint Commission U.S. Section Co-Chair, Lana Pollack, will kick off the meeting and GLRO Director Dr. Saad Jasim will outline the role of the Commission within the mandate of the Canada-US Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement (Agreement). In addition, presentations will highlight the recent process updates at the Lou Romano Water Reclamation Plant and the improvements to water quality resulting from the new $67 million retention basin project underway on the Windsor riverfront. First signed in 1972, the Agreement created the GLRO and tasked it with supporting the Commission in its role of providing advice and assessing progress on the part of governments in restoring the chemical, physical and chemical integrity of the waters of the Great Lakes Basin Ecosystem. The GLRO is also required to administer a public information program, and this seminar is a part of that effort. The seminar will include time for discussion and questions from the public. Refreshments will be provided. ### Contact: John Nevin, GLRO Public Affairs Advisor, 519-257-6733, nevinj at windsor.ijc.org -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
