April 26 will be tailored to the needs of watershed group staff, volunteers, board members and municipal officials. While April 27 will have a community focus, appropriate for grassroots organization volunteers, board members and neighborhood group leaders. Both workshops are aimed to help attendees learn about climate change impacts and how to adapt their work for success in the changing climate. “Extreme storms like the one associated with Hurricane Sandy are just one of the impacts of a changing climate” said Ann Baughman, Associate Director for Freshwater Future. “As we have seen, these changes will affect our communities in many ways. If we know what to expect and prepare for changes, we can limit our vulnerability and make our communities more resilient for the future.” The Climate Symposium is an opportunity for groups to learn more about other expected changes in the region, the challenges those will pose, how they can make their own work more climate savvy and also help their communities become more resilient. In addition to providing information about climate impacts, the two one-day workshops will share examples of work from other communities, and provide information about tools and resources, including a copy of Freshwater Future’s newly released Climate Adaptation toolkit, created in partnership with EcoAdapt, who will be co-leading the workshop. Attendees will also receive information about Freshwater Future’s climate grants program and staff will be on hand to provide assistance with project ideas. Advanced registration is required by April 4.
