BACKGROUND:
The Coalition's annual 3-day Great Lakes Restoration Conference attracts more than 400 people from across the region to discuss cutting edge Great Lakes issues. In 2013, the Coalition is holding its conference in collaboration with other state, federal and advocacy partners as part of Great Lakes Week.

The Coalition is looking for engaging and compelling proposals in two categories:

1. Field Trips: The Milwaukee and Lake Michigan Connection

The Coalition is seeking fun, educational, inspiring and creative proposals for field trips in the greater Milwaukee area to highlight restoration success stories, environmental challenges, and cultural landmarks.

2. Presentations on Great Lakes Restoration Issue Areas

The Coalition is seeking innovative, creative, engaging and compelling proposals for presentations in the following categories:

A) Regional/National Great Lakes Policy Issues
Examine cutting edge policy issues that impact people and the lakes. Presentation topics can include environmental justice, urban restoration, aging infrastructure, agriculture conservation programs, Asian carp and Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement.

B) Restoration Success Stories
Discuss restoration success stories funded through the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative or other state, federal or private funding sources. This category can also include projects that delve in to the economic benefit of restoration projects.

C) Grassroots Action that makes a Difference
Learn about compelling stories and strategies used to help win local, state, regional or national conservation victories. Priority will be given to grassroots action specific to the restoration of Lake Michigan and its tributaries and wetlands.

D) Science and the State of the Great Lakes
Explore cutting edge research on existing or emerging threats to the Great Lakes-and what solutions are needed. Particular attention will be given to applications with a focus on Lake Michigan and its tributaries and wetlands.
