Goodyear has been chairing a committee around addressing green chemistry 
issues in the automotive sector, in collaboration with the Supplier 
Partnership for the Environment – a parttnership between auto 
manufacturers, their suppliers and the US EPA. This committee was formed in 
2006 to (1) follow emerging chemical regulations; (2) develop strategic 
technical solutions; and (3) share best practices. One initiative that has 
developed out of this group is the Material Assessment Strategy (MAS) 
group, which was begun in 2007 with the goal of developing a common health 
and environmental hazard, exposure and risk screening process for chemicals 
in vehicles parts and processes.  Science Strategies has been contracted to 
develop the Material Assessment Strategy.
