Decision support is a collection of tools for the communication of issues underpinning the selection of actions or policies. Climate policy is a particularly challenging arena for decision support due to the complex connections between climate and human activities; numerous interest groups with competing interest; and uncertainties in both the future of climate and the impacts of actions. Strategies for treating the uncertainties, including dealing with uncertainty about our understanding of that uncertainty, are discussed.

Mark Berliner
Dr. Mark Berliner is Professor and Chair of the Department of Statistics at OSU. He has served as Geophysical Statistics Project Leader at the National Center for Atmospheric Research, as a Contributing Author to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), and as co-chair of the American Statistical Association’s Advisory Committee on Climate Change Policy. He is Vice-Chair of the Activity Group on Uncertainty Quantification of The Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics.

The OSU Climate Change Outreach Team is a partnership among multiple departments within The Ohio State University to help localize the climate change issue by bringing research and resources to Ohioans and Great Lakes residents.
