Scott, Arpad Horvath, UC Berkley did an LCA training at the WSPPN conference in 2005. He should have some curriculum/syllabi info from Berkeley to share. Contact info and a dated bio below. Happy Holidays! His research interests are in developing methods and tools for environmental and economic analysis of civil infrastructure systems. His research has focused on the environmental implications of the construction, electronics and various service industries, life-cycle assessment modeling, and environmental performance measurement. He is the director of the Consortium on Green Design and Manufacturing (CGDM), and Associate Editor of the ASCE's Journal of Infrastructure Systems. Colleagues - My apologies for any duplicate posting. I may have the opportunity to design and teach an undergraduate course in Lifecycle Analysis for a local University branch campus. The students will largely be drawn from a program that the school has in the area of biofuels, and is likely to include a number of student researchers who are working on biofuels projects. My goal in this course is to provide students with a solid foundation in the theory and practice of lifecycle analysis, with special emphasis on its application to new product and process development (as opposed, for instance, to validation of environmental claims). Hopefully, the course will accomplish two things: (1) encourage a few bright undergraduates to pursue graduate studies in LCA, industrial ecology, and related disciplines (at other universities, since this institution doesn't offer such programs); and (2) inculcate new engineers who are interested in renewable energy technologies with the mindset and tools that allow them to address lifecycle issues throughout their careers. I would be interested in seeing any course outlines/syllabi that you might be willing to share with me, or any related notes which might help me avoid reinventing the wheel when designing this course. Thoughts about what you might do DIFFERENTLY from existing syllabi, based on your experience or based on the evolution of the discipline, would also be welcome. For those of you in industry, your thoughts about what you'd like to see new hires understand when they come to work, would also be welcome feedback.
