EPA is considering expansion of WaterSense to include partnership and
participation options for users in the commercial and institutional (CI)
sector. Typical CI water users include hotels, hospitals, office
buildings, schools/universities, and restaurants among others. We are
seeking input from our partners and other interested stakeholders on the
current state of data related to water use in the CI sector as well as
potential program options. We have developed a white paper on water use
in the CI sector to serve as a platform for obtaining this feedback. The
paper can be found at
http://www.epa.gov/watersense/partners/cipaper.htm. While there are gaps
in the currently available data, this paper attempts to summarize the
best available resources that EPA can use as a basis for future
decision-making regarding a national CI program. The paper also includes
a discussion of the various forms that a CI focused component of
WaterSense could take.

We are currently seeking comments on the white paper and insights into
working with these types of organizations on water conservation and
other P2 initiatives. Comments may be submitted to
watersense-ci at erg.com through September 20, 2009. Please feel free to
forward this along to other interested parties.

Thank you for your help.
