Correlated to education standards? Yes Ordering Information Table of Contents ![]() A compendium of well-organized, easy to use lesson plans created and field-tested by teachers participating in a series of interactive workshops linking national geographic standards to aquatic exotic/invasive species. This activity compendium contains well-organized, easy to use lesson plans created and field-tested by teachers who participated in a series of interactive workshops concerned with linking national geographic standards to aquatic invasive species. While focused on geography, many of the lessons create interdisciplinary links between the social and natural sciences as students discover the origin, transport, spread and ecological impacts of “alien” species, and how responsible actions may help prevent the spread of these organisms. The materials contain a wide range of teaching approaches; including cooperative learning, peer teaching, and community action. A hard copy collection of resulting school projects provides examples and encouragement to those contemplating action-based education. A majority of the activities are either specific to the Great Lakes or general enough to be used in the basin. Some are specific to other areas of the country. Most are designed as in-class activities and there is some variance in the levels of specificity and the amount of background information they provide. Many activities depend on external sources, often on-line. Because the breath of concepts that will be covered is therefore unclear, these particular activities received slightly lower concept ratings.
