Split Rock Lighthouse was an early-20th century engineering marvel
The Split Rock Lighthouse that opened in the summer of 1910 is now part of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Split Rock Lighthouse State Park, a 2,200-acre site that offers hiking, picnicking, and tent camping to visitors.
U.P. lighthouse restoration bolsters tourism, economy, and community pride

The historic DeTour Reef Light rehabilitation project is coming to a close after nearly 16 years of work. Scheduled to open this summer and restorers hope to draw visitors and rivaling other popular U.P. lighthouses, such as Eagle Harbor, Marquette Harbor and Whitefish Point.
Great Lakes Lighthouse Festival
The 18th Annual Great Lakes Lighthouse Festival provides activities for all including lighthouse tours (aerial, boat or car), entertainment, and more. The festival boasts over 100 maritime-related vendors and takes place Oct. 10-13 in Alpena, Mich., with additional on-site events at lighthouses across the region.
Michigan boasts more lighthouses than any other state

The Pure Michigan website lists at least 115 Michigan lighthouses on the shores of four Great Lakes. The Mackinaw City-based Great Lakes Lighthouse Keepers Association puts that number at 129. Either way, Michigan has more lighthouses than any other state.
