Festival educates people about clean water
WNWO - Toledo, OH (9/30)
The first annual Maumee Bay Festival took place Sunday afternoon. Organizers held the event to urge people to take care of local waterways and get more people involved.

Big ships herald Toledo's Navy Week

Promoting all of the Navy's roles and capabilities is a big part of what this summer's Navy Week tour of six U.S. cities on the Great Lakes is all about. It's also about naval history, marking the bicentennial of the War of 1812, which was largely fought over naval control of the Great Lakes as well as British interference with American shipping in the Atlantic Ocean.

Lake Superior Day is July 15!

Lake Superior Day was started in the early 1990s to highlight the importance of this great water body to the Great Lakes basin’s environment and economy. The Lake Superior Binational Forum, GLIN's Site of the Month for July, promotes this basin-wide event to highlight the special connections people have to this unique world treasure.

Navy Pier summer fireworks

Navy Pier in downtown Chicago, Ill, is a prime destination for fireworks on Lake Michigan! Spectacular fireworks displays, perfectly synchronized to music, take place throughout the year and most notably on July 4th. Celebrate Independence Day on the Great Lakes!

Festival draw for birders
Superior Telegram (5/18)
The sixth annual Chequamegon Bay Birding & Nature Festival runs through Saturday and is expected to draw birders as well as nature lovers to the breathtaking south shore of Lake Superior.

Lake St. Clair fest teaches students importance of preserving natural resources
The Detroit News (5/16)
About 1,600 Macomb County fourth- and fifth-grade students gathered Tuesday at Macomb Community College to explore concepts of water conservation, preservation and safety at the fifth annual Lake St. Clair Water Festival.
